The Old Brick Workshop

The Old Brick Workshop

Space for creative industries.

I am offering studio spaces in a large building on the edge of Wellington, Somerset.
I have up to 9 self contained spaces available to rent. (Approximately 3.5mx4m). These studios offer a clean white space with plenty of natural light. 3 studios are on the ground floor with disabled access and toilets, and six are on the first floor. Also on the first floor is a large communal kitchen and sitting room available to resident artists. A place to meet, swap ideas and chat.
Studios cost £120 per month plus £20 per month maintenance fee.

On the ground floor there is a Community Room that I offer to artists who don't want to commit to a permanent space. For a fee of £40 per month an artist can book themselves up to eight 4hr sessions in the Community Room. There will be some storage provided so that artists can leave materials on site between visits.

The Community Room can also be hired as a venue to host workshops, classes, meetings, lectures, or even band practice.

I took this building on in July 2014 and my concept was to build a vibrant, creative community. Now, two years on I feel like this is starting to come to fruition. The studio spaces are now all occupied. My web site is up and running. The community room is being used regularly by a variety of creative groups and the gallery has hosted some fantastic exhibitions..

The gallery opened just in time for Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2015, and was a tremendous success with over 800 visitors through the door. Now one year on, the nine member artists are getting ready for this years Open Studios 2016 which runs from the 17th of September through to the 2nd of October. Venue number 202. Not only will the artists once again be exhibiting in the gallery and throughout the building, they will also be opening their own studios allowing you a glimpse into their creative processes.

This year The Old Brick Workshop is also delighted to be host venue to one of SAW’s Creative Pathways artists. Out of the many artists who applied for this bursary it was Bristol based artist, Veronia Gayle, who won the opportunity to exhibit alongside the member artists. Veronia creates colourful abstract collages, paintings and drawings inspired by surrounding environment. Her practice is based on the experimental exploration of the ambiguous abstract nature of form, line and texture. She is going to be resident in a pop up studio during the Open Studios event and will be leading some printing workshops and a collaborative community art project throughout the two weeks.

Other opportunities being offered at The Old Brick Workshop include an art club run every Friday morning, willow workshops available during the summer holidays, an art course starting in October and printmaking and life drawing classes coming soon. The gallery is also available for group, joint or solo exhibitions. The Old Brick Workshop is an exciting ‘work in progress’ and will continue to adapt, change and develop alongside its occupants and the creative community who use and enjoy it.
